People all across BANGLADESH are celebrating their country's Independence Day today. Bangladesh declared independence from Pakistan in 1971. Happy Independence Day!
The following produce and materials are major exports of BANGLADESH: ceramics, coal, food-grade oils, fabricated metal products, fertilizer, frozen seafood, fruit and vegetables, jute and its products, leather, medicine and pharmaceuticals, rice, spices, sugarcane, tea, textiles (especially clothes), tobacco, and wheat. According to the International Monetary Fund (data.imf.org), countries and territories buying and importing most of those exports in 2016 include the United States (top importer), Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, China, India, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey, Australia, Sweden, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia.
Major, highly populated cities in BANGLADESH include but are not limited to Dhaka (the country's capital), Chandpur, Chittagong, Comilla, Dinajpur, Jamalpur, Khulna, Madaripur, Narayanganj, Pabna, Rajshahi, and Thakurgaon. With a massive metropolitan area including almost 19 million people, Dhaka is considered to be the world's third most densely populated city, with about 28,000 people per square mile.
Various countries have suns on their flags. They are ANTIGUA and BARBUDA, ARGENTINA, KAZAKHSTAN, KIRIBATI, KYRGYZSTAN, MALAWI, NAMIBIA, NEPAL, NORTH MACEDONIA (known as Macedonia or FYROM in 2015), The PHILIPPINES, RWANDA, and URUGUAY. Comprised of a main island and smaller islands, TAIWAN (Republic of China) is not exactly a country but it also has a sun on its flag. The sun on Taiwan's flag is featured in the top-left corner on top of a blue rectangle. The flags of BANGLADESH and JAPAN both feature a central red circle representing the sun. PALAU's yellow circle actually represents the moon!
As of August 14th, 2014, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ lists 20 critically endangered and 43 endangered species in BANGLADESH (link to Bangladesh post). Since the beginning of the IUCN Red List, the Black Soft-Shelled Turtle became extinct in the wild and is only found in an artificial pond near the city of Chittagong. Several critically endangered species include the Bengal Florican bustard (bird), Javan Rhinoceros, Pink-Headed Duck, Pygmy Hog, Sonneratia griffithii mangrove tree, and White-Bellied Heron.
The capital of BANGLADESH, a small Southern Asian nation located east of India, is Dhaka! Bangladesh is known for being densely populated. According to my atlas, Bangladesh has a population density of 2,525 people per square mile, or 975 people per square kilometer!
BANGLADESH is located in Southern Asia. The country is about 50% surrounded by India on the west, north, and east; the Bay of Bengal is south and the country Myanmar is to the southeast. The capital of Bangladesh is Dhaka. The currency is the Bangladeshi Taka, and the ISO 4217 currency code is BDT.
