KYRGYZSTAN currently has 6 cities with populations higher than 50,000. Located in northern Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek is Kyrgyzstan's capital and most-populated city. Dzhalal-Abad is located in western Kyrgyzstan near the Uzbekistan border. Kara-Balta is west of Bishkek, Karakol is east of Lake Issyk-Kul', Osh is south of Dzhalal-Abad, and Tokmak is east of Bishkek.

Tien Shan is a mountain range located in eastern KYRGYZSTAN and extends further eastward into western China. The two ranges that run parallel to the western portion of the Tien Shan are Khrebet Terskey Ala-Too and Kokshaal-Tau. Khrebet Terskey Ala-Too is also known as Terskey Ala-Too and Terskey Alatau, while Kokshaal-Tau is also known as Kokshaal Too and Kakshaal Too.

Located within southwestern KYRGYZSTAN are three 'major' enclaves and some that are even tinier that belong to two countries that border Kyrgyzstan: Tajikistan & Uzbekistan. The 'major' enclaves are still considered small, being ≤ 20 miles wide; they are (from west to east) Vorukh (belongs to Uzbek.), Sokh (also known as So‘x; belongs to Uzbek.), & Shakhimardan (belongs to Tajikistan).

Ozero Issyk-Kul' is a salt lake located in northeastern KYRGYZSTAN. The saline lake is located at a high elevation of 5,193 feet, or 1,584 meters. Due to the salinity of Ozero Issyk-Kul', ice never forms year-round. Towns located along the lakeshore include Chok-Tal, Grigor'yevka, Kuturgu, and Tyup.
