The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a
* Tornado Warning for...
New Hanover County in southeastern North Carolina...
Southwestern Pender County in southeastern North Carolina...
* Until 645 AM EDT.
* At 606 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing a tornado
were located along a line extending from 9 miles southeast of
Johnny Mercer Pier to near North Masonboro Island, moving northwest
at 35 mph.
HAZARD...Tornado.
SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.
IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.
* These dangerous storms will be near...
North Masonboro Island, South Masonboro Island and Myrtle Grove
around 610 AM EDT.
Wrightsville Beach, Seagate, Masonboro, Landfall and Silver Lake
around 615 AM EDT.
Windemere, University Of North Carolina At Wilmington and Mayfaire
around 620 AM EDT.
Wilmington, Figure Eight Island, Rich Inlet, Bayshore, Kings
Grant, Wilmington International Airport, Hightsville and
Murrayville around 625 AM EDT.
Hampstead, Porters Neck, Scotts Hill, Wrightsboro, Cape Fear
Community College North Campus and Ogden around 630 AM EDT.
Castle Hayne around 635 AM EDT.
Long Creek, Rocky Point, Montague, Currie and The Borough around
645 AM EDT.
Other locations impacted by these tornadic storms include New Hanover
Regional Medical Center and Cape Fear Hospital.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 40 between mile markers 407 and 416.
Interstate 140
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Tornadoes are extremely difficult to see and confirm at night. Do not
wait to see or hear the tornado. TAKE COVER NOW!
Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
