Indiana Wind Chill Alerts
A vast territory of the United States has wind chill alerts issued by the National Weather Service at weather.gov. This area spans from the Great Plains eastward to New England and even down to the South. Most areas in the Great Plains, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and New England states will experience subzero temperatures (especially at nighttime) for the rest of the week. Focusing on Indiana, more Lake Effect snow from Lake Michigan is expected to cover some counties in Northwest and North-Central Indiana. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for six Northern Indiana counties and many counties in Southern Indiana. Meanwhile, the northwest, north-central, and central regions of the Hoosier State currently have a Wind Chill Warning, meaning colder temperatures than the Wind Chill Advisory counties. In the three counties under a Winter Weather Advisory - Elkhart, LaGrange, and Saint Joseph — lake effect snow will vary between three to eight inches depending on location and proximity to Lake Michigan. This advisory is expected to end at 4 P.M. EST Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana.
Flooding is occurring along the White River in Southwest Indiana (Gibson, Knox, and Pike counties), two sections of the East Fork White River (Daviessand Pike counties in Southwest Indiana and Jackson county in Southeast Indiana), and the Muscatatuck River in Southeast Indiana (Jackson, Scott, and Washington counties).
Both the wind chill advisory and warning are expected to expire at noon EST Thursday in Northern Indiana. Southern Indiana's advisory is expected to end at 10 A.M. Thursday. Central Indiana's warning should end at 10 A.M. Thursday, while the advisory for Fayette, Union, and Wayne counties should end at 5 A.M. Wednesday. The three counties will then only have a Wind Chill Watch.
