Bolivia Extinct and Endangered Species
As of November 17th, 2014, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ for BOLIVIA lists one extinct species and three extinct in the wild since the time the list was created, 23 critically endangered species, and 45 endangered species. Officially the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Bolivia is one of two landlocked countries in South America (Paraguay is the other). The possible extinct species is a plant known as the following binomial nomeclature: Flabellidium spinosum. A specimen was collected in 1911, but logging and agricultural activity in the area may have caused the species' extinction. Originally native to the Andes Mountains, the three poisonous, extinct-in-the-wild Angel Trumpet tree species are the Borrachero Tree (Brugmansia arborea), Guamuco Tree (Brugmansia sanguinea, also known as the Red Angel's Trumpet), and Brugmansia insignis. These species are still ornamental trees grown around the world. Discover more about Bolivia! (link to my blog post)
