Canadian Territories — Northwest Territories
A vast territory located in Northwestern Canada (hence the name), the Northwest Territories are north of Alberta and Saskatchewan provinces, northeast of British Columbia, northwest of Manitoba, west of Nunavut, east of the territory of Yukon, and south of Beaufort Sea and Arctic Ocean. Cape Bathurst marks the northernmost point on the mainland of Northwest Territories. There are, however, large islands north of this point. The Northwest Territories possess some small and large islands, including Banks, Brock, Emerald Isle (the same name given as a nickname for Ireland in Europe), Prince Patrick, and the western parts of the islands of Borden, Mackenzie King, Mellville and Victoria. The Northwest Territories boast many lakes, including some large ones. The two largest lakes, which are vastly larger than other lakes in Northwest Territories, are Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake. Located north of Great Slave Lake in South-Central Northwest Territories, the capital is Yellowknife. The Mackenzie Mountains form a natural border with the Yukon territory. Natural parks include Nahanni National Park Reserve in the southwestern part of the territory at the southern end of the Mackenzie Mountains, Tuktut Nogait N.P. along the northern coast, and part of the Wood Buffalo N.P. which extends into Alberta.
