GeoFact of the Day | Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Graphic made my me, The GeoWhiz (cactus and sombrero/maracas are from Microsoft Clip Art)
Peubla, the capital of the state of PUEBLA in MEXICO, is the location of the origination of Cinco de Mayo. On May 5 in the year 1862, Mexico claimed victory against French forces in the Battle of Puebla, and Cinco de Mayo commemorates this special event ever since! Cinco de Mayo is often thought of being Mexico's Independence Day, but that isn't true: its Independence Day is on September 16. Nevertheless, Cinco de Mayo is a day worth celebrating in Mexico and elsewhere!
