Located in western AUSTRIA, the Brenner Pass is situated on the southern border with northern Italy at a height of 4511 feet (about 1375 meters). While it is the lowest in comparison to other main Alpine passes, it is a mountain route that has been used since the Roman years. The first true road was built in 1772.
