I am a blue morpho butterfly, specifically also known as morpho peleides in biological binomial nomenclature and as the Peleides blue morpho or common morpho. As you can see in my "selfie" below, I have a large wingspan averaging 4½ to 8 inches! I am now a star on television: a recent episode entitled “Butterfly Blueprints” on Nova, an informative show about all sorts of science topics on PBS, talks about my thin and microscopic “scales” that gives my wings an iridescent sheen. My coloration is not derived from a pigment but rather from my scales’ reflectivity. I live in the rainforests, but mostly in which continent: Africa, Asia, or South America? The answer of where I live is listed below!
