The Amazing Race 32, Episode 5 Recap

The Amazing Race’s fifth episode of Season 32 aired on Wednesday, November 11th and was set in Paris, the national capital of FRANCE. This is the first Season 32 episode to be located on the European continent.

● Episode info on CBS — Teams in Paris, France must whip up some tasty treats and make enough Chantilly cream for four pies, as well as compete in a series of carnival games.

● Teams encountered a Roadblock called “Who Has an Eye for Art?” set in the Château de Chantilly’s Condé museum north of Paris in the town of Chantilly. In the building gilded with dozens of framed art masterpieces, teams were tasked with matching a person in a painted portrait with an impersonator attending a party at the museum — making sure to remember the name of the subject’s artist. Answers include Rosa Bonheur, François-Hubert Drouais, Scipione Pulzone, Charles Léandre, and Nicolas Poussin. Johann Baptist von Lampi and Philippe de Champaigne were examples of non-matching incorrect answers that teams communicated to the museum curator.

● “Cream of the Crop”: teams whisked a batch of Chantilly cream and filled four pies — two pies made by each team member. They then had to carry their pies to a table while dodging and ducking pies being thrown at them by chefs.

Roadblock entitled “Who Wants to Step Up?”: one member on each team played three carnival games. They threw balls into wooden people’s mouth holes, played horse race “skee ball,” and an archery-style game where they propelled darts toward the target. This Roadblock occurred at Les Pavillons de Bercy, a venue that includes a museum housing Europe’s largest 19th century fairground collection.

● Haley and Kaylynn stayed in the competition because the previous episode was a non-elimination leg, but they encountered a Speed Bump task called “Hold Your Horse.” The duo had to clean a horse’s saddle and other riding-gear accessories. Despite having to complete this extra task, Haley and Kaylynn did not arrive in last place at the…
