The Amazing Race, Episode 6 Recap

The Amazing Race’s sixth episode of Season 32 aired on Wednesday, November 18th and was set in Berlin, the national capital of GERMANY. All seven remaining teams travelled in the same train from Paris — the setting of episode five — to Berlin, home to Europe’s largest train station.

● Episode info on CBS — Teams reach new heights in Berlin, as they walk face-first down the exterior of a building for nearly 200 feet.

● Teams travelled by taxi to the East Side Gallery at the graffiti-covered Berlin Wall memorial. They looked for a suitcase housing their next clue.

● “Get in the Groove”: teams drove a classic stick-shift Trabant car to a Teledisko booth, the “world’s smallest disco party” complete with disco ball, possibly seizure-inducing strobe lights, and a smoke machine. It costs four Euros to operate the colorful booth. Despite the rapidly flashing lights on the screen, I did not see a previous warning screen from CBS about the possibility of seizures that could happen from watching this episode. I have never had a seizure, but I had to change the channel at some scenes; the lights were too crazy for my eyesight!

● At Andel’s Hotel (Vienna House) in eastern Berlin, teams encountered the Yield opportunity allowing them to activate their hourglass to delay teams. Again, no one used it just like in previous episodes. I believe the hourglasses would be activated if teams could delay others by several hours instead of 20 or 30 minutes!

● “Who Wants to Feel the Wind in Their Hair?” Roadblock: a team member had to climb 15 stories of stairs to reach the top of Andel’s Hotel before rappelling downwards ... outside the building! While descending, the Roadblock participant had to unscramble blinking letters on the ground. The word to figure out was “sauerkraut.” DeAngelo did not initially see the letters on the ground, so he had to run up and then rappel down again.

Detour, choice between “Belt It Out” or “Belch it Out”: teams choosing the Belt it Out option visited the Berlin Comedian Harmonists and learned to sing “I Wish I Were a Chicken” in the German language. After correctly singing the fast song with the Harmonists while wearing chicken-inspired pants, the team received a Pit Stop clue.

Teams choosing the Belch it Out option learned a sequence of four beer yoga poses — 1) beer salutation, 2) beer chair, 3) beer boat, and 4) beer dancer — and then taught it to a beer yoga class. Teams were required to drink from a bottle of beer throughout the yoga sequence!

Pit Stop: Neukölln District

● Episode 7 takes place in Almaty, KAZAKHSTAN.
