The Amazing Race 32, Episode 2 Recap

The Amazing Race’s second episode of Season 32 aired on Wednesday, October 21st — wholly taking place in the Bogotá, COLOMBIA metropolitan area. A feature of seasons 5 to 11 (U.S. version of The Amazing Race), the Yield returned to this season and episode! A Yield Hourglass gives each team the power to pause another team’s competition for either 10 or 20 minutes. Those do not seem like significant amounts of time, but it can make all the difference in determining a team’s ability to arrive at the “finish line” (Pit Stop) before last place!

● In the colorfully lit Nemocón Salt Mine (Mina de Sal de Nemocón) in the city of Nemocón 42 kilometers (26 miles) north of Bogotá, teams searched for the 10-minute and 20-minute Yield Hourglasses that they would be able to activate later.

● While visiting the hubbub of Bogotá, teams were tasked with finding an “emerald” or a small golden figurine placed throughout cathedral. Teams finding a gem (or gem look-alike) delivered it to a gemstone broker, while golden figurine finders would deliver it to an archaeologist. While the archaeologist said that these figurines are “fake” in not having real gold, teams were still able to proceed with their next clue.

Yield: Teams found the Yield opportunity at a circus tent called Circo Para Todos (Circus For All). They had the opportunity to activate their hourglasses, but the classy and polite teams (every team in this episode) chose not to use their hourglasses. Like in previous seasons, these Yields can likely be used in future episodes.

Roadblock: At Circo Para Todos, teams were “clowning around” by spinning in a “death wheel” — sort of a dizzying giant hamster wheel in which a team member cartwheeled from a starting location to the tightrope area. Frighteningly suspended over a dozen feet in the air, a harnessed teammate carefully walked along the tightrope — all while delivering a tray with cups and a bottled beverage from one side of the circus tent to the other!

● Teams customized a volqueta, a truck decked out in colorful and shiny accessories. Their truck had to match a decorated example that includes chrome fenders for the rear wheels, metallic floor mats, and red horns hooked together to play a cheerful melody.

Pit Stop: Parque Nacional, a nature preserve encompassing over 700 acres in Bogotá.

● Episode 3 will begin somewhere in the Amazon Rainforest. The Double U-Turn returns to this upcoming episode! This option allows two teams to nominate two other teams to complete both Detour tasks.
