People all across SLOVENIA celebrated their country's Statehood Day on Thursday, June 25th. Slovenia achieved independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. Happy belated Statehood Day!
Slovenia also celebrates a related holiday in the last month of every year. Independence and Unity Day commemorates the election results of a December 23rd, 1990 plebiscite/referendum leading up to the Central European country's independence. The holiday occurs a few days later on December 26th — the day when the results of that referendum were publicly announced.
