24 counties in eastern North Dakota are experiencing a harbinger to the wintry weather season to come. The counties impacted by a blizzard — corresponding to the Blizzard Warning issued by the National Weather Service — are Barnes, Benson, Bottineau, Cavalier, Dickey, Eddy, Foster, Grand Forks, Griggs, LaMoure, McHenry, Nelson, Pembina, Pierce, Ramsey, Ransom, Rolette, Sargent, Sheridan, Steele, Stutsman, Towner, Walsh, and Wells. ...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM CDT SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. For this entire event, snowfall
amounts of 6 to 12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph
will result in whiteout conditions with large, impassable
drifts.

* WHERE...Barnes, Ransom and Sargent Counties.

* WHEN...Until 1 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Several days of impossible travel. Disruptions to
travel will last through at least the weekend. Localized power
outages. Tree and structural damage from the heavy snow load.
Disruptions to agricultural and livestock activities.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowplows are having a hard time plowing
the wet, heavy snow. Ditches are full of water in many
locations, adding an additional danger for persons trying to
travel.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must
travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded,
stay with your vehicle.

* WHERE...In Minnesota, West Polk, Norman and Clay Counties. In
North Dakota, Traill and Cass Counties.

* WHEN...Until 1 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Several days of difficult travel. Disruptions to
travel will last through at least the weekend. Localized power
outages. Tree and structural damage from the heavy snow load.
Disruptions to agricultural and livestock activities.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowplows are having a hard time plowing

be a very tight snowfall gradient, with amounts of 6 to 12
inches along the immediate Red River in central and northeast
North Dakota to 1 to 2 feet just 20 miles further west. Winds
gusting as high as 55 mph will result in whiteout conditions
with large, impassable drifts.

* WHERE...Pembina, Eastern Walsh County, Grand Forks and Steele
Counties.

* WHEN...Until 1 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Several days of impossible travel. Disruptions to
travel will last through at least the weekend. Localized power
outages. Tree and structural damage from the heavy snow load.
Disruptions to agricultural and livestock activities.

travel will last through at least the weekend. Localized power

Disruptions to agricultural and livestock activities.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible.
Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute. Gusty
winds combined with heavy snow could bring down tree branches.
