Over 1,000 UNESCO World Heritage Sites are designated by the World Heritage Committee (or Convention) in order to preserve these areas' cultural, physical, and environmental qualities. The World Heritage Committee is a component of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. Before (and maybe after) Thanksgiving during this week, the GeoFact of the Day Blog will highlight interesting info about multiple examples of World Heritage Sites.
