Brunei Endangered Species
As of November 30th, 2014, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ for BRUNEI lists that there are quite a lot of critically endangered and endangered species in this country with a small area on Borneo island. There are 44 critically endangered species and 41 endangered species. Some critically endangered species include the Christmas Frigatebird, Sarawak Surili primate, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Sunda Pangolin, Three-Striped Batagur turtle, White Seraya plant, and White-Rumped Vulture. Even though these species are critically endangered, some species have rather large geographic ranges. For example, the Three-Striped Batagur (Batagur borneoensis) is found in western and southern Borneo, in an area along the coast and inland of Malay Peninsula, and in northern Sumatra island. By the way, Borneo is the world's third largest island while Sumatra is the sixth largest. The Three-Striped Batagur species is also known as the Painted Batagur, Painted Terrapin, and Saw-jawed Terrapin. Discover more about Brunei! (link to my blog post)
