Happy New Year 2014!

2013 has been a wonderful year for the GeoFact of the Day Blog. The 700th post occurred near the end of July, and I am currently encroaching the 800th post milestone as the new year begins (this post is #789). Compared to previous years, 2013 posts have covered a greater variety of topics: some posts contain information that is hard to find on the Internet! For example, this blog probably has the only map showing the Indiana counties where the Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake is endangered; data is available, but it has not really been presented in a publicly-accessible map form until now. I always try to find interesting — and sometimes random — topics that have not been well-mapped. October 2013 was the 5th year anniversary of the GeoFact of the Day Blog. Updating this blog benefits me because I am discovering more and more things about the world and also refreshing my current knowledge. With that, I am looking forward to the year 2014. Regardless of civil and international conflicts and the still-lagging but greatly improving global economy, 2014 could very well be the year of prosperity and hopefully greater peace on Earth. I hope that you will have a wonderful 2014, and thank you for following along on the GeoFact of the Day Blog!
