Recap of The Amazing Race Season 22 (2013), Episode 5

After completing challenges in INDONESIA for the fourth episode, the eight remaining teams head to Hanoi, the capital of the Southeast Asian country of VIETNAM to compete their way towards the $1 million and the title of Amazing Race Season 22 winning team. Like always, the teams made up of two competitors faced several challenges before heading to the Pit Stop for the finish. Teams had to sit through a 5-minute play performed by a 'young generation' of Vietnamese, then find a poster that has the same message written on it as the message shown in the play. For another challenge, teams had to request certain quantities of vegetables at an outdoor market. They were given English directions (example: 200 grams of chili peppers) and needed to buy the goods from a Vietnamese shop owner. Of course, there is a language barrier between the competitors and most Vietnamese people, so it was important that the teams found people who understood English in order to translate the shopping list for the shop owner.

David and Connor, the inspirational cancer-surviving father-and-son team, voluntarily exited the competition after the 12-minute mark in this episode. David experienced lots of pain due to an ankle injury, so they felt that it would not be wise to continue the competition. Having finished in first a couple of times - even as David suffered from ankle problems - David and Connor should be proud of what they accomplished and endured in life and on the Amazing Race! Pam and Winnie, who quickly found an English speaker and completed the task rather rapidly, was the first to arrive at the Pit Stop. Chuck and Wynona arrived last, but were not eliminated because of David and Connor's departure.
