Unusual Weather Brought Woe to Parts of US
It is still winter in Southern INDIANA and the Midwest, yet you wouldn't have guessed after hearing about the storm system that brought tornadoes through areas that usually don't see them until spring comes around. In ILLINOIS and MISSOURI, the tornadoes unfortunately claimed a dozen or so lives and one tornado impacted Branson, MO, a popular tourist destination (fortunately, no lives were lost in that incident, and it didn't completely destroy any buildings; it did tear off roofs of hotels, shattered windows, etc.). Straight-line winds and a possible tornado caused damage in Newsburgh, Indiana, located in WARRICK county in Southern Indiana. Fortunately, no lives were lost in that incident either; information about the tornadoes thanks to the Indianapolis Star (opens in new window). In the current weather situation, much of Indiana and other places experienced heavy wind gusts; however, the winds are dying down as the Wind Advisory that was in effect for many Indiana counties expired. There is a Tornado Watch still in effect for a string of counties in Northern ALABAMA, Northern GEORGIA, NW SOUTH CAROLINA, and Western NORTH CAROLINA, but it will diminish by 1 AM Thursday. I hope the families of the tornado victims can heal from the devastating events and that the victims rest in peace.
