Sea of Marmara
The Sea of Marmara, known as Marmara Denizi in the Turkish language, is situated south of Istanbul in northwestern TURKEY. It is connected to the much larger Black Sea, positioned north of Turkey and northeast of the Sea of Marmara, by the Bosphorus strait (known as İstanbul Boğazı; can be shortened to Bosphorus). The Dardanelles strait connects the southwestern part of the Sea of Marmara with the Aegean Sea. Within the Sea of Marmara lies a few islands, including Türkeli (Avşa Adası), Paşalimanı, İmralı, and Marmara. Besides Istanbul, cities like Tekirdağ, Bakirköy, Gebze, and Bursa are located near or by the Sea of Marmara.
