Reunion

Réunion IslandLocated in the Indian Ocean, RÉUNION island is an overseas region of France. Réunion (also spelled without the accent) is situated southwest of Mauritius and east of Madagascar. Its capital is Saint-Denis, which is located along the northern coast and has a population larger than 100,000. The highest point is Piton des Neiges, standing over 10,000 feet (3070 meters) tall. Since Réunion belongs to France, the currency used is the Euro; therefore, the former currency (used until 2002) was the French Franc (ISO 4217 currency code was FRF). Up until 1973, Réunion used their own Franc currency.

Hello
Good to see Reunion on the Geofact of the day blog!
One little correction however: between 1973 and 2002 (introduction of the Euro) the currency used on Reunion was the French franc, exactly the same as mainland France.

@champacs: Thanks for pointing out my error! I am planning to have more posts about islands, like Mayotte, the Channel Islands, etc.

I enjoyed posting about Reunion and would love to visit this splendid island one day :)
