The Chinese island territory of TAIWAN (Republic of China) is located in Southeast Asia off the southeastern coast of mainland China and north of The Philippines. The capital is Taipei (T'aipei), which has more than 2.7 million people in the city. Other cities and communities include Kaohsiung, New Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Banqiao (Panchiao). The currency is the New Taiwan Dollar, and its ISO 4217 currency code is TWD.
