People all across UZBEKISTAN are celebrating their country's Independence Day today. Uzbekistan proclaimed independence from USSR (the Soviet Union) on August 31st, 1991 and established Independence Day the next day on September 1st. Independence officially occurred once the USSR collapsed and dissolved in December of that year. Happy Independence Day!
