Stari Ras and Sopaćani, Serbia

Post #4 of UNESCO Heritage Sites Week

Designated as the first capital of SERBIA, Stari Ras features medieval fortresses, churches, and monasteries. A 1979-listed UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrates the architecture and lengthy history of the southern Serbian city, located near Kosovo and Montenegro. In particular, 13th-century Sopaćani Monastery boasts a cupola and artistic frescoes. More information can be found on UNESCO's website.
