Thanks to conservation efforts, the UNITED STATES Department of the Interior announced that the Delmarva Fox Squirrel will no longer be on the Endangered Species Act's list of Threatened and Endangered Wildlife starting next month. While some environmentalists and biologists say the squirrel population is still low, there are about 20,000 squirrels living on the namesake Delmarva Peninsula and the population trend is increasing. This peninsula drops in between Chesapeake Bay to the west and Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The peninsula is partitioned into Delaware in the northeast, Maryland in the west and south center, and Virginia in the extreme south. The Delmarva Fox Squirrel is said to resemble chinchillas and can be quite plump!
