Haiti Extinct Species

I usually include extinct species listings within my Endangered Species posts, but the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ for HAITI in North America reveals that Haiti has ten extinct species listed - this is quite unusual for a relatively small country. Of course, there could be many more species that became extinct in Haiti and other countries but are not listed by the IUCN. Haiti's extinct species include the Atalaye Nesophontes shrew mammal, Caribbean Monk Seal, Cuban Macaw, Haitian Nesophontes, Hispaniolan Edible Rat, Imposter Hutia rodent, Montane Hutia, Puerto Rican Hutia, Samana Hutia, and St. Michel Nesophontes.
