Countries that Adopted Flags in June

Years ago, 22 countries adopted their flags during the month of June. In the flag collage image above (flag images from Flagpedia.net), the flags are in order from top row to bottom, left to right - the order that the countries' names appear in this post. African countries adopting flags in June are Burundi (June 28, 1967), Djibouti (June 27, 1977), the Republic of the Congo (June 10, 1991), Seychelles (June 18, 1996), and Tanzania (June 30, 1964). The Republic of the Congo's flag originally flown through the years 1959 to 1970, then it was re-adopted in 1991.

The June flag adopters in Asia are Cambodia (re-adopted on June 29, 1993 after using it from 1949-1970), Kazakhstan (June 4, 1992), The Philippines (June 12, 1898), and Turkey (officially June 5, 1936 with similar variants used earlier).

Papua New Guinea (June 24, 1971) and Samoa (June 1, 1948) are two Oceanic countries adopting their flags in June. New Zealand has been celebrating a "flag day" as the country's flag was adopted 113 years ago today (June 12th) in 1902!

In Europe, June flag adopters are Andorra (official law specifications created on June 20, 1996; used before), Belarus (June 7, 1995), Iceland (June 19, 1915), Italy (June 18, 1946), Liechtenstein (June 24, 1937), Portugal (June 30, 1911), Slovenia (June 24, 1991), Sweden (June 22, 1906), and Vatican City (June 7, 1929). Belarus has new flag since 2012, with a similar design featuring no white space around the ornamental pattern. Iceland's June adoption refers to the land-based adoption of a previous flag with a lighter blue color than the color of the country's current flag.

The only North American June flag adopter, Trinidad and Tobago technically adopted a flag on June 8, 1962 - the date when the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for the Colonies announced that Trinidad and Tobago would achieve independence on August 31, 1962. No South American countries adopted flags in June.
