The Amazing Race 31, Episode 7 Recap

The Amazing Race (U.S. version) season 31, broadcasted on CBS in 2019

In episode 7 (Season 31, April-June 2019) of the U.S. version of The Amazing Race on CBS, teams flew from Entebbe International Airport in UGANDA to the international Zürich Airport in SWITZERLAND. Entitled “Living Fearlessly” as a direct quote of contestant Christie Woods, this episode originally aired on Wednesday, May 29th, 2019 in the United States. Sorted by chronological order, here were the challenges and happenings encountered by teams in this episode:

● Teams travelled by railway from the Kloten station at Zürich Airport to a railway station in Grindelwald, a picturesque town of about 4,000 people in south-central Switzerland.

Roadblock: In a scary but undoubtedly thrilling Roadblock, one competitor on each team swung about 120 meters (400 feet) downwards into the Grindelwald glacier gorge (Gletscherschlucht) and subsequently searched the immediate area for the next clue.

● Teams enjoyed the spectacular Switzerland scenery in one-team helicopter rides to Grimsel Pass.

Detour, choice between “Water Power” or “Water Down”: Teams choosing the Water Power option rode the Gelmerbahn funicular cable car, memorized eight signs listing Swiss water basins and their volume capacity, and traversed by foot across a hydroelectric dam bridge to match the basins and volumes on a map at the other end. Teams failing to guess the combinations correctly would have to ride the Gelmerbahn again — and again and again if necessary! Teams choosing the Water Down option rappelled 46 meters (150 feet) down the Grimsel Canyon, later jumped up to grab the next clue hovering above a glacial river, and zip-lined and hiked their way out of the canyon. Teams that successfully completed their Detour task then arrived at a serene Pit Stop…

Pit Stop: Saint Michael’s Church in Meiringen, a municipality of about 5,000 people geographically located northeast of Grindelwald village
