San Marino's Republic Day

Happy Independence Day, Sammarinese people!

Completely surrounded by Italy, the Republic of SAN MARINO is believed to be the world's longest surviving sovereign country! The establishment of San Marino dates back to 301, when Saint Marinus established a basilica on top of the mountainous, defensible territory. Annually celebrated on September 3rd, Republic Day is often known as the Founding of the Republic and the Feast of Saint Marinus. Annual festivities include a Solemn Mass in the Saint Marinus Basilica, procession of the saint's relics throughout the streets of San Marino, crossbow tournament, concerts, bingo, and fireworks.
