Location of the State of Zulia in VENEZUELA: Located south of the Caribbean Sea (Mar Caribe) in northwest Venezuela. Zulia State almost completely surrounds Lake Maracaibo (Lago de Maracaibo). Zulia maintains a prominent petroleum extracting and refining industry, so the lightning bolt design on its flag is likely to represent the electricity generated from burning petroleum.
