Teams Participating in the Olympics
· In North America, seven countries and five territories (Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands) are competing. They are The BAHAMAS, CANADA, DOMINICA, HAITI, JAMAICA, MEXICO, and the UNITED STATES.
· Another seven countries participating in the Olympics are from South America: ARGENTINA, BRAZIL, CHILE, COLOMBIA, PARAGUAY, PERU, and VENEZUELA.
· 10 African countries are competing. They are ALGERIA, ERITREA, ETHIOPIA, KENYA, MADAGASCAR, MOROCCO, SENEGAL, SOUTH AFRICA, and ZIMBABWE.
· About 20 Asian countries are competing; of course, there are several mountainous countries like KYRGYZSTAN and TAJIKISTAN participating.
· From Europe, about 50 countries are participating. Alphabetically, they range from ALBANIA to UKRAINE. As expected, athletes representing RUSSIA (also referred as the Russian Federation) will compete to bring honor to their country, which is hosting the 2014 winter Olympics in Sochi.
· Finally, the countries of Oceania that will try to earn medals, victory, and gratification when hard work pays off are AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, and TONGA.
