Caprivi Strip


The narrow piece of land jutting out from NAMIBIA's northeast corner is named Caprivi Strip. According to The Handy Geography Answer Book, German Chancellor Georg Leo von Caprivi bought that land in 1890 from the British so that Namibia — known as German Southwest Africa at that time — would have access to the Zambezi River.
