Hence the name of this island group, there are 12 major islands (the prefix dodeca- refers to the number 12), and the Dodecanese Islands are comprised of at least 150 smaller islands. The Dodecanese are found southeast of Greece, northeast of Crete island, & off Turkey's southwest coast. The capital is Rhodes (also known as Ródos), which has more than 50,000 inhabitants.
