Famous Maltese Arch Collapsed

Formerly located off the west coast of Gozo (Ghawdex) island in MALTA, the Azure Window was a limestone arch prominently featured in the Game of Thrones fantasy drama TV series, The Count of Monte Cristo movie, and Clash of the Titans film. Also natively known as Tieqa tad-Dwejra, the arch collapsed due to a combination of wind and wave erosion — with a possible culprit of chemical erosion from pollution-related particles — on Wednesday, March 8th, 2017. Whether or not they previously had the chance to visit Azure Window, some Maltese citizens are quite saddened to know of the loss of a cherished landmark. A video, photographs, and more details can be found on this Times of Malta webpage (↗).
