Djibouti Endangered Species

As of June 11th, 2015, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ for DJIBOUTI in East Africa lists 1 critically endangered species and 13 endangered species. Fortunately, Djibouti does not have any extinct species on the IUCN Red List. The Djibouti Francolin (Pternistis ochropectus) bird is Djibouti's single critically endangered species. Djibouti is a relatively small country, and the species' range is smaller yet. The francolin's general habitats are highlands and mountainous terrain north of the Tadjoura Gulf in Obock and Tadjoura regions.

Some endangered species of Djibouti include the Blue Whale, Gabal Elba Dragon Tree, Golden Sandfish, Great Hammerhead shark, and Prickly Redfish. A sea cucumber species, the Prickly Redfish is also known as the Pineapple Sea Cucumber. Its exterior has pointy projections like a pineapple does!
