Abnormally Dry in Northeast Indiana

While many parts of Indiana are below normal precipitation amounts for this time of year, the United States Drought Monitor website (droughtmonitor.unl.edu) reveals that only six counties are experiencing abnormally dry conditions - the lowest drought category. The abnormally dry area covers most of DeKalb, southern Elkhart, northern Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben Counties in Northeast Indiana.

Northeast Indiana counties are abnormally dry so far in September 2014.

You may already know that a majority of California is experiencing exceptional drought, which is the highest possible category for drought severity. Other areas dealing with the same predicament include western Nevada, southwest Oklahoma, and northern/north-central and south-central Texas. The national U.S. Drought Monitor map shows many other areas experiencing lower drought severity levels, especially in the west, southwest, south, and southeast.
