An island located in the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia belongs to ITALY as an autonomous region. Sardinia is south of Corsica, west of Italy, and northwest of Sicily. The capital is Cagliari, which has more than 157,000 inhabitants. The 2nd largest city, Sassari, has a population of 130,000. There are at least two archaeological towns in Sardinia: Tharros and Nora.
