The Amazing Race 32, Episode 7 Recap

The Amazing Race’s seventh episode of Season 32 aired on Wednesday, November 18th immediately after episode six and was set in Almaty, a city of 1.8 million residents in southeastern KAZAKHSTAN near another Central Asian country: Kyrgyzstan.

● Episode info on CBS — Teams travel to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where they brave the cold weather while perfecting a choreographed fight scene and decorate a yurt.

● Teams visited Kazakhfilm Studio, one of the major movie studios in Central Asia.

● “Get Ready for Your Close-Up” Speed Bump: after having to satisfy requirements of the episode 5 Speed Bump for arriving last to the Pit Stop, still-last-place Haley and Kaylynn also had an extra (and comical) task in this episode. The ladies needed to paste a fake moustache and beard on each other and wear the fuzzy and likely itchy “hair” for the entire episode! Later on, Maddison and Riley noticed the women’s facial accessories and did a fist beard bump with them! The male team jokingly complimented the female team, saying the beard-moustache ensemble “looks better on you than on us.”

Detour, choice between “Great Khan’s Spy” or “Knockout Guy”: teams choosing the Great Khan’s Spy option witnessed a movie scene and answered questions from a gentleman dressed as Genghis Khan. Here are the questions and answers: how many horses entered the village? [six], how many battle warriors had an axe? [just one], how many warriors carried spears? [five], and how many times did “Great Khan” (Genghis Khan) call out to his warriors? [zero].

Teams choosing the Knockout Guy option reenacted a movie scene with five steps to accomplish. In chronological order, these steps involved a sword fight, boulder-blocking shields, axes (not sure what they had to do in this step), using a spear to “kill” a warrior, and jumping off a platform into a cushiony mat of hay.

Yield: another Yield opportunity was provided in a nomadic village in Karasay District near Almaty. Haley and Kaylynn activated their Yield hourglass to delay Alana and Leo for 20 minutes.

● “There’s No Place Like Yurt”: teams had to steer a camel loaded with materials to a yurt and recreate a typical yurt’s wall coverings and table setting. While this initially seems to be a pleasant task, teams also had to carry a disturbing, cooked lamb’s head to the table!

● Teams searched for the clandestine clue box — hidden on a balcony upstairs — in the Zelenyi Bazaar meat market.

Pit Stop: First President Park

● Pit Stop Fun Fact: Almaty is believed to be where the world’s first apple tree grew and lived about 20 million years ago! Before (and hopefully after) the world has to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, an Apple Tree Festival took place at the First President Park plaza.

● Episode 8 will be a “Mega Leg”! The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan explains that this “leg” or episode/portion of the competition will include “double the detours, double the roadblocks, and double the distance” of a typical leg. This next-week episode will take place at several locations in INDIA.
