Missouri & Mississippi Rivers

The Missouri River is the longest river in the United States, even though many (including me) thought would think that the Mississippi River is the longest, but it's not! The Missouri River is more than 2,500 miles, and the Mississippi is 2,300 miles. Together, they make up 4,800 miles. Unfortunately for the Missouri, it is a tributary of the Mississippi River, so folks wouldn't consider it an individual river. Instead, they would consider it a tributary of the 'longest river in the US'! The Mississippi River is deeper, though, containing more water than the Missouri.
